NEWS : Shihan Bill Poly is heading to Sweden
Shihan Bill Poly has been invited by his long time friend and fellow Karateka Shihan Robert Wiklund to work closely with him in Sweden; where he will be taking a Go Shin Jitsu and Fighting Seminar.
This week I had the chance to ask Shihan Bill Poly some questions about the upcoming event and also found out a little more about his seminars.
How Long have you known Shihan Robert Wiklund?
I had the honour of meeting Shihan Wiklund in Hawaii in the late 1980s, two young karatekas invited by Shihan Lowe to compete in the full contact tournaments. We were both full contact fighters trying to compete in as many tournaments as we can. Since then we can became close friends and a big part of the Kyokushin family. Our paths have crossed in many places around the world and I am so looking forward to meeting him again in his home country and to be a part of his Kyokushin family. I am honoured for the invitation and really humbled that I get this opportunity to conduct the seminars in Sweden.
Why have you decided to take your seminar international? My passion and love for the art truly inspires me to spread the teachings of Kyokushin to the world. Shihan Bobby Lowe exposed the Goshin Jitsu techniques to the world and it is my responsibility and duty to continue the teachings of Shihan Bobby Lowe and Sosai Oyama to the world. The dream of Kyokushin was to spread the art to the world and as a Shihan and my contribution is to continue the teachings and ensure Kyokushin never ceases to exist. What do expect the students to get out of it? A basic knowledge of self defence techniques that are combined with the Kyokushin techniques we know. It is to give the students another dimension of Kyokushin and to expose them to the closest possible real time situation they may be confronted when in the streets and not in the dojo. What do you hope to get out of it – your experience?
That people grasp the Goshin Jitsu techniques and understand the limitless applications of techniques within Kyokushin.
How is your seminar different from other self defence seminars?
These seminars are about learning and understanding the techniques. It's not about "crash and bash" we can always do this in our own dojos. It's about learning something new, something old and Something strong. This was the motto of Shihan Bobby Lowe. It's also a way of giving back and continuing the teachings for Shihan Bobby Lowe. I have received the blessing and support of the Lowe family to continue to teachings of the great Kyokushin legend Shihan Bobby Lowe.
